After the first tournament in Coffs Harbour, I went on to Sydney for a 3K tournament. Sydney itself was really nice to look at and I really liked it there. At the tournament itself, things didn't go well, but not too badly either. After some problems in my first match against Damon Macmillan from Australia, where I won in the fifth set, I played much better in the quarter-finals. I won the quarter-finals clearly 3/0 and played in the semi-finals against Abhay Singh from India. In the last encounter in May, I lost to Abhay Singh in the fifth set, so I wanted to take my revenge here. But unfortunately, I could not do so, since I lost again in five sets. So, the tournament in Sydney was already over and I went on to Bega.
The tournament in Bega was more on the rural side. The village was not really big and our accommodation was in an Australian forest with wild possums and wombats. The tournament itself went absolutely not as expected. After a walk-through in the first round, I played the second day against Ryunsouke Tsukue from Japan. I expected an exciting match, because I have already seen him play and also heard about him. But unfortunately that was not the case at all. I could not show my performance on this day and lost clearly 3/0. So, the trip to Bega was very short and I went earlier to Melbourne to have a look around. After a good day and a half in Melbourne, I went down to Devenport, Tasmania.
Devenport was the last tournament on my Australian trip. After a good 3 days of training, the tournament started for me against Harley Lam from Hong Kong. I already knew him from the World Games when I won 2/1. But here in Australia, I won clearly 3/0 and played in the quarter-finals against my Swiss colleague Robin Gadola. The match against Robin was very
The game against Robin was very interspersed with phases with a lot of mistakes but also relatively good phases again. But in the end, it was never enough to win the sets and I lost 3/1. So, the last tournament was over for me and I went back home on Monday.
The trip to Australia was not as successful as I had hoped, but it showed me a few things and opened my eyes for things I didn't really see and realize before. Besides the tournaments, Australia was an incredible place with many beautiful views and animals that you don't really have here in Switzerland. So overall this trip still remains in my memory as very good and rich in experience and I hope I will be able to go back one time!
