Australian Tour; First Tournament
After a good 22h flight and a short stop in Singapore, I landed in Brisbane on August 13 for my tournament series here in Australia. After three short days in Brisbane where I overcame the jetlag, got used to the winter time and temperature and trained a bit, I went with my Swiss colleagues and an Australian colleague to Coffs Harbour (about a three hour drive from the Goald Coast) for my first tournament.
The tournament was endowed with a prize money of 12 thousand US dollars. As the number six seed in the tournament, I had a walk-through in my first round, which meant I didn't have my first match until Thursday evening. On Thursday evening, I played Chung Yat Long from Hong Kong, whom I could beat without too many problems 3/0. The next day, it became more difficult. I played Matthew Lai, who had beaten the number two of the tournament in the previous round. The start of the match was a bit bumpy for me, when I was down 1/0. But after some tactical changes and several tough rallies, I finally managed to win the next three sets quite clearly.
So, on Saturday, I reached the semi-finals of the Costa North Coast Open 2022, where I played the third seeded Malaysian Addeen Idrakie. The first set was hard fought, but I lost it in overtime. I managed to win the second set. After that, I lost 3/1 because of a few mistakes and tactical bad decisions.
In the end, it was a successful tournament for me and I am already looking forward to the next tournament in Sydney.
